2010-2014 Strategic Framework
As your Museum Education Roundtable, we encourage you to print, post, distribute, share, discuss, and/or forward the 2010-2014 Strategic Framework. We want you to get more out of MER!
The goals and objectives of the framework are laudable; however, I would have liked to see more about how the national board communicates with membership and regional groups–and vice-versa. There also needs to be an element or platform for regional groups to interact and exchange ideas. And while the framework mentions growing membership, nowhere in the document is the word “marketing” mentioned. I am a little uncertain as the particulars, but I feel this framework puts MER on the right track.

The MER board welcomes YOUR further input and ideas from you about how MER can serve as a platform for the regional groups. We would love to promote local programs, facilitate dialogue and conversation among local groups, anything to make museum educators feel connected to a larger community of practice. Do you have ideas about marketing? Do you belong to a local group? What can MER do to make your group feel like part of a national conversation?

As Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the Museum Education Roundtable, I appreciate B.J. Davis’ comment about how the national board communicates with membership and regional groups, as well as the value of marketing to achieve the strategic objectives.
Each of the six committees of MER has action items and task lists to help meet the five year goals some of which include what you would like addressed.
Thank you for sharing your observations and voicing your concerns. The more food for thought the better.
